OSRS Ranged Gear Armor Progression Guide: (BIS)

Ranged armours are armours that have high ranged attack bonuses. Some also provide magic defence bonuses, but only a few provide melee bonuses. Ranged armours are usually made from animal hide, tanned dragonhide, or some other type of leather. In this guide, we have listed the best ranged armours, progressing from the ones with the least ranged attack bonuses to the highest.

Leather armour

This armour has the lowest ranged bonuses in OSRS and has no requirements before it can be worn. All of its pieces can be made using leather and worn even in F2P.

Studded body armour

The studded leather armour is the second-best body slot for F2P and requires 20 ranged and 20 defence to wear. Studded leather armour can be made by adding studs to the leather body and leather chaps. Additionally, players can wear the coif, as it also requires 20 ranged

The Frog-leather armour requires level 25 ranged and level 25 defence. It can be made by the Dorgeshuun goblins and bought from Reldak in Dorgesh-Kaan

Snakeskin armour requires 30 ranged and 30 defence to wear. It consists of a snakeskin bandana, snakeskin body, snakeskin boots, snakeskin chaps, snakeskin vambraces, and snakeskin shield. All of which can be crafted from tanned snakeskins.

Green dragonhide armour

The green dragonhide armour except the green dragonhide body requires 40 ranged to wear, wearing the body requires 40 defence and the completion of the Dragon Slayer I quest. The full outfit consists of a green d’hide body, green d’hide chaps, green d’hide vambraces, and green d’hide shield.

Void Knight equipment

 

The set of void knight armour can be purchased from the Void Knights with recommendation points earned from pest control. Before a player can buy and equip any of the pieces, the player must have 42 attack, strength, defence, hitpoints, ranged, and magic, with 22 prayer. The complete set for ranged consists of a void ranger helm, void knight top, void knight robe, and void knight gloves, These pieces require 850 commendation points.

Mixed hide armour

The mixed hide armour requires 60 ranged and 50 defence to wear. It consists of a mixed hide top, mixed hide legs, mixed hide boots, and mixed hide cape. All of these can be either crafted with levels 68 to 72 crafting depending on the item or by supplying the correct materials to Pellem in Hunter Guild.

3rd Age ranged kit

The 3rd age ranger kit is a 3rd age equipment that requires 65 ranged to use and 45 defence to wear. It is the fourth most powerful non-degradable ranged armour in OSRS. The 3rd age range equipment consists of 3rd age range coif, 3rd age range top, 3rd age range legs, 3rd range vambraces, and 3rd age bow.  It can be obtained through the completion of hard, elite, and master-tier treasure trails.

Black dragonhide armour

Players must have at least 70 ranged to wear the black dragonhide armour except for the body and shield which require 40 defence to equip. It consists of a black d’hide body, black d’hide chaps, black d’hide vambraces, and a black d’hide shield. All of which can be crafted from 6 pieces of black dragon leather, or obtained as fairly common rewards from completing Hard clues.

Blessed dragonhide armour

 

Players must have at least 70 ranged to wear the pieces of blessed dragonhide armour except for the body, coif, boots, and shield which require 40 defence. This armour cannot be crafted like other dragonhide armours, players can only obtain it from hard Treasure Trails or buy from other players. It has the same offensive bonus as the black dragonhide armour, but has a +1 prayer bonus and 6 different variants which count as god-related protection for the corresponding god within the God Wars dungeon or the wilderness God Wars Dungeon. These variants include Ancient, Armadyl, Bandos, Guthix, Saradomin, and Zamorak.

Crystal armour

 

The pieces of the crystal armour requires 70 defence to equip. When the full set is worn, A total bonus of 15% damage and 30% accuracy is applied when using the crystal bow or Bow of Faerdinen. The pieces of the armour can created through crystal armour seeds at Singing bow.

Karil the Tainted’s equipment

 

Karil the Tainted’s equipment requires 70 defence and 70 ranged to equip, but Karil’s crossbow requires 70 ranged to wield. This armour can be obtained as a drop from completing the Barrows minigame. The Karil’s crossbow, unlike other crossbows, is a two-handed weapon and requires a unique type of ammunition called bolt racks. Like other Barrows equipment, it degrades after it has been used for 15 hours of combat. It consists of Karil’s coif, Karil’s leathertop, Karil's leatherskirt, and Karil’s crossbow

Armadyl armour

The pieces of the Armadyl armour require 70 ranged and 70 defence to wear, and are considered the second-best ranged armour in OSRS, additionally, it does not degrade. It consists of the Armadyl helmet, Armadyl chestplate, and the Armadyl chainskirt. They are dropped by the General Kree’arra and his three minnows. The main disadvantage of this armour is that it provides negative melee bonuses, making it less ideal against enemies that attack with melee.

Eclipse moon armour

This is obtained as a possible reward from the Lunar Chest in Neypotzli. When the full set is worn, the eclipse atlatl has a 20% chance to inflict a burn effect on targets.

Masori armour

This set of armour requires 80 ranged and 30 defence to equip. It is the best ranged armour in OSRS in terms of ranged attack bonuses and also has the highest magic defence bonus. Unlike the Armadyl armour, it does not provide negative melee bonuses. It consists of the Masori mask, masori body, and masori chaps.


To get better ranged defence bonuses, players can fortify their masori armour. Any piece of the masori armour can be fortified by combining them with an Armadylean plate.

The Archers ring is one of the Fremennik rings and is dropped by the Dagannoth Supreme in the Waterbirth Island Dungeon. It has +4 ranged attack and defence bonuses, but it can be imbued as a reward from the Nightmare Zone and costs 650,000 reward points, at Soul wars for 260 Zeal tokens, or by using a scroll of imbuing purchased from the Emir’s Arena.

The Venator ring requires level 90 magic and 80 crafting to create, and the player must have learned how to combine Fremennik ring icons with ancient vestiges via Peer the Seer.
