Steel Dragons are a type of metal Dragon, easily identified by their silver colour and high defence. They are relatively stronger and have a combat level of 246 or 274, depending on their location. Players tend to skip Steel Dragon slayer tasks as they are usually long, offer poor slayer XP, and are not profitable enough.

With the completion of the elite Karamja diary, Steel dragons and other metal dragons will drop their respective bars in noted form if toggled on through Pirate Jackie the Fruit.

Location of Steel Dragons

Steel Dragons can only be found in 2 locations:

Brimhaven Dungeon

There are 13 Steel Dragons spawns in total in the Brimhaven Dungeon. 4 in the regular Dungeon, while 9 (level 246) in the task-only area. Steel Dragon attacks

Steel Dragons attack with melee and Dragonfire

  • Melee attack: Steel Dragons will use a slash melee attack against players in their melee range. This attack has a max hit of 22 and can be fully protected from by using Protect from Melee.
  • Dragonfire attack: Steel Dragons use this attack consistently when their opponent is not in melee range and occasionally when the player is in melee range. It has a max hit of 50 and can be fully protected against by using a Dragonfire shield and antifire potion.  Note that Protect from Magic does not protect players against the Dragonfire from the Iron Dragon and other metallic dragons.

Strategy for Steel Dragons

Steel Dragons are weak to mage and stab, so we advise you to use any of those attack styles. Before starting the fight, drink combat boosting and anti-fire potions. Using magic or ranged is a common method for killing Steel Dragons because they will not attempt to close the distance and use their melee attack, allowing the player to take zero damage as long they are protecting from the Dragonfire attacks.

If using melee, the player needs to use protect from melee and antifire potion not to take any damage from the Steel Dragons. Players can also kill them without antifire potion. However, they will take damage from the dragonfire attacks, but it will be a lot less since the Dragons will mostly use melee when the player is standing in melee range.
